Beginning Saturday June 9 the Saline Farmers Market is accepting the Bridge Card for purchases at the market.

Patrons with a state issued Bridge Card can visit the Bridge Card booth at the Saturday Saline Farmers Market to get tokens in $1 increments to use for market purchases.  The amount requested will be subtracted from their Bridge Card and market tokens will be issued to use at participating market vendors stalls.  Look for a “Bridge Card Tokens Accepted Here” sign in vendors stalls which will identify those who accept the Bridge Card tokens.

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) / Bridge Card provides financial assistance for food purchasing to low- and no-income people and families living in the U.S.  It is a federal aid program, administered by the Food and Nutrition Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, but benefits are distributed by the individual U.S. states. It is historically and commonly known as the Food Stamp Program.

Items that can be purchased with the Bridge Card are all foods items as long as they are not hot, prepared foods that are meant to be eaten immediately.  Also included are seeds and plants that produce food.

Tokens can be redeemed at the Tuesday Saline Farmers Market but can only be purchased at the Saturday Saline Farmers Market.

We are very excited to add the SNAP program to the Farmers Market this year.  This program will provide low income families the opportunity to buy local, fresh food, attract more customers to our market and become one of the many Farmers Markets who are participating in this program.
